Saudi Arabia, officially the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is a country on the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It has a land area of about 2,150,000 km², making it the fifth-largest country in Asia, the second-largest in the Arab world, and the largest in Western Asia.
Saudi Arabia is a Middle Eastern country that earns the majority of its wealth from oil and gas. Located between the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea, this is the birthplace of Islam and home to Islam's two holiest shrines, in Makkah and Madinah.
While the country’s main source of government revenues comes from oil (accounting for 87% of the total government revenues), the e-commerce market in Saudi Arabia is poised for continued growth. The number of Saudis using e-commerce to buy and sell is expected to increase by 42% in 2024.
Although local e-commerce platforms still dominate the Saudi market in this area, Amazon Prime entered the Kingdom in January 2021. The Saudi Arabian government is making efforts to increase Saudis’ trust in e-commerce and encourage the use of e-commerce platforms. This includes strengthening the country’s e-commerce regulatory environment to protect both consumers and businesses.
