OVERVIEW

Liechtenstein is a small European principality nestled between Austria and Switzerland. With an area of just 62 square miles, this German-speaking microstate may be physically small in size, but it is incredibly powerful in terms of economy and wealth. It has been a member of the European Economic Area since 1995, has virtually zero national debt, and the second-highest GDP per capita in the world.

Liechtenstein plays a significant role in international financial services. There are a number of small, medium and large-sized businesses situated here, many of which seek highly skilled individuals for available roles. The country is renowned for its economic and political stability, good connectivity and strategic location. It has a solid, stable government, sophisticated legal system and one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

Why Choose Liechtenstein?

With some of the highest wages in Europe and an abundance of career opportunities, Liechtenstein is a superb location for employment. Companies here offer employees interesting roles with strong potential for career development.

Despite its small size, there is plenty to see and do in Liechtenstein. Surrounding scenery is beautiful while the smallness of the country means there is a strong feeling of community here. Quality of life is high and there are so many opportunities for riding, hiking and even cross-country skiing in winter. Being centrally located in the heart of Europe means you can reach major European cities in a matter of hours.

Requirements to set up a company

Many businesses choose to establish themselves in Liechtenstein, due to the easy incorporation rules and low business tax rates (12.5%). In most cases, the time needed to open a company in Liechtenstein is one week, though this may vary according to the chosen type of company and the time needed to draw up the constitutive documents.

The first steps in incorporating a company in Liechtenstein are to first select a legal entity (including Limited Liability Company or Public Company). You will also need to check the business name availability with the Commercial Register and prepare the Articles of Association. You will need to deposit a minimum share capital in a Liechtenstein bank account (amount varies depending on the company structure), and register the company with the Liechtenstein Commercial Register.

Requirements for employees wishing to relocate

In order to work in Liechtenstein, employers must register new EU/EEA employees with the Migration and Passport Office within ten days of starting work. Non-EU/EEA citizens require a cross-border commute permit from the Migration and Passport Office, which must be applied for at least 14 days prior to the first day of employment. The permit is issued for one year. Swiss citizens do not require a permit.
