Jersey Telecom (JT) has secured a site for its fourth Jersey based data centre, further demonstrating its commitment to invest in the Island’s infrastructure to support both the finance and emerging eGaming industries.

The site in the Rue des Pres trading estate was previously occupied by Jersey Pottery and will now provide 144 racks and 6800 square feet, which JT will transform over the next 12 months into a state of the art data centre. This is the latest development in JT’s £40 million investment programme to provide world class telecommunication support for the Island.

Tim Ringsdore, MD of the CI Division at Jersey Telecom said: “Our aim is to stay ahead and deliver the infrastructure and services to not only meet the demands of our customers but ensure that Jersey remains competitive on a global scale. We are truly punching well above our weight already and this latest data centre will further boost the Island’s position as host for an eGaming industry.”

He added: “Data hosting centres are just one area in which we are heavily investing for Jersey’s future. We are also developing critical connections to the rest of the world and unlimited bandwidth to cope with changing communication needs, while our “Gigabit Jersey” initiative will give the Island the fastest speed on offer anywhere in the world.”

JT’s four Jersey and two Guernsey data hosting centres are purpose built facilities that provide resilient and highly secure environments for customers’ essential computer equipment, including the powerful computer servers that run business critical systems and specialist data storage equipment. In addition further investment is being made to increase the capability of existing centres.
