The job market in IT may be slow in certain parts of the world, but by no means everywhere. British banking giant Barclays, while reducing its IT workforce in the UK, is planning to hire up to 1500 highly skilled staff for its new technology centre in Singapore, according to a report in the Singapore-based Straits Times.
The newspaper quotes Frits Seegers, chief executive of the bank’s global retail and commercial banking wing on the reasons for the move: ’We picked Singapore to be the technology heart for Barclays... as it offers the quality staff we need,’ and ’because of the quality and dedication of the people here.’
The selection process is said to be exceptionally rigorous.
